Glossary
Every crypto word used in these docs, explained in plain language.
- Blockchain
- A shared record book kept by thousands of computers at once. Once something is written into it, nobody can secretly change it.
- Confirmations
- The network double-checks every transaction several times. Each check is a confirmation; after enough of them the transfer counts as final.
- Explorer
- A public website where anyone can look up any address or transaction in a blockchain — a search engine for the record book.
- Gas (network fee)
- A small fee the network itself charges for processing a transfer. It goes to the network, not to Stargate.
- GRAM
- The coin of the TON network. In Stargate you see GRAM wherever the TON coin is sent or received; the network itself is still called TON.
- Memo (comment)
- A short note attached to a transfer — like the apartment number on an envelope. Without it the money reaches our building, but we cannot tell whose it is.
- Seed phrase (secret words)
- The 12 or 24 words your wallet shows when you create it. They ARE your money: anyone who knows them controls the wallet. Never share them with anyone.
- Stake
- A refundable security deposit. You park some of your crypto with us as a guarantee and get instant Stars swaps in return; it is returned to you in full.
- Telegram Stars
- The built-in Telegram currency for payments inside Telegram. You buy Stars in the Telegram app and can swap them here.
- Transaction
- One entry in the record book: this much moved from address A to address B.
- USDT
- A stable coin designed to stay worth about one US dollar. It exists on several networks — Stargate supports USDT on Ethereum (ERC-20) and on TON (Jetton).
- Wallet
- Your own address in the network plus the secret key that controls it — an account that belongs only to you.
